How to Set Up Bin Blocking
The BIN Blocking feature lets you block specific bank identification number (BIN) ranges at checkout in your store. You can enable one of the built-in presets or create a custom rule for any BIN range you want to restrict.
Access BIN Blocking
Follow these steps to locate BIN Blocking rules within your store's Payment Routing settings.
-
Click Stores in the left navigation bar.
-
Select the store you want to configure.
-
Click the Payment Routing within the store.
View Existing BIN Blocking Rules
Use these steps to review the BIN Blocking rules already configured for your store, including presets and custom rules.
-
Scroll down to the BIN Blocking section on the Payment Routing page.
-
Review the preconfigured BIN Blocking presets. Phoenix includes:
- Discover
- American Express
- Stride Bank
- The Bancorp Bank National Association
- Sutton Bank
-
Turn on the Status toggle next to a preset to enable it.
-
Click the Edit icon in the Actions column to edit a rule, or click the Delete icon to delete it.
Create a New BIN Blocking Rule
Complete these steps to create a custom rule for a BIN range that isn't covered by the presets.
-
Click + Add BIN Blocking Rule in the BIN Blocking section.
-
Enter a descriptive name in Rule Name in the Add BIN Block Rule dialog.
-
Enter the BIN range to block in the From and To fields.
-
(Optional): Click the
+button to add another BIN range to the rule, or click the-button to remove one. -
Select the rule type in Select Rule:
-
Block Transaction: Prevents the transaction entirely. The customer cannot complete the purchase or become a subscriber using that card.
-
Not Enrolled: Allows the initial direct sale to be processed. Prevents the customer from becoming a subscriber.
-
-
Enter the message customers will see in Error Message.
-
Click Add to create the rule.
WarningWhen a blocked BIN is detected, the customer immediately sees the configured Error Message while entering their card information at checkout. The transaction is prevented before it reaches payment processing, unlike a traditional decline, which only occurs after the processor attempts to authorize the transaction.
